A SEED depicts the story of a young girl on her journey across Mother Earth. On her journey, she walks the land planting seeds in each new environment. The young girl listens to the voices of her ancestors and the land. Place a singular seed of light in each corner she illuminates the Earth. The intersectionality of this poem and activism is taken as the concept through the seeds of light. The young girl has listened to the cries of her ancestors and is taking action. The poem was inspired by the effects after reading Claudia Rankine’s book Citizen. Her book tells a story that those with an identity of privilege have not had to relate to. However, those holding marginalized identities live alongside the systematic oppression currently in place. All readers should feel inspired to take action and create change. Thus, the young girl in this story is taking it upon herself to be the change in the world she wants to see.
